There are scheduled throughout the day and are always a delight, especially for children. If you allow a couple of relaxing hours, you and your family get to discover and meet all the animals there. Then take a relaxing walk around Rockhampton’s Botanic Gardens and the Murray Lagoon. All free and in the same spot! There are even picnic tables and eating areas to enjoy your lunch plus some of the best playgrounds in Rockhampon for your children to enjoy!

Keeper Talks and Animal Feedings
One of the highlights of visiting Rockhampton Zoo the daily animal talks and feeding sessions. These presentations offer a closer look at some of the zoo’s most beloved residents. The talks provide the most fascinating insights into animal behavior, conservation efforts, and what it takes to care for each species and keep them healthy.
It’s a great opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn, ask questions, and even witness feeding time up close, making every visit both fun and educational.
See the animals!
The meerkat enclosure is one of the first you see when entering the zoo – who could resist fussing over these cute furry creatures straight out of the Lion King!? They are one of the animals you can book an encouter with which includes feeding and holding them as well as the oppurtunity taking your camera and taking a photo with them!
Then you come across the chimpanzee enclosure which would have to be one of the star attractions of the zoo! The chimpanzees live in a well thought out designed enclosure that encourages natural behaviors through climbing structures and enrichment activities. It is so much fun to watch them through the glass as they eat, climb and even show off to their viewers!
There are gibbons and otters to see as well as all the traditional Australian natives everyone knows about – kangaroos, emus and koalas. Go see the dingoes, a salt water crocodile, snakes and even a wedge tail eagle!

Meerkat encounters take place at 11.30am every day. Saturday’s have an extra 2:00pm session available and during Queensland school holidays there are also Thursday 2.00pm sessions.

Otter encounters experiences are available on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. This includes all public holidays apart from Christmas Day, at 2:00pm
Duration is approx. 20mins in which you have the oppurtunity to feed the otters through the mesh and watch them swim and play while the keeper fills you in on more about these playful creatures.

What about an adorable python encounter? Most people misunderstand these creatures, so this is a great oppurtunity to hold and pet one, while learning all about their interesting natures and how important they are to our natural enviroment!
Snake encounters are available at 10.30am on Saturdays and Sundays, including all public holidays except for Christmas Day.
