Q. How did you become a marriage celebrant? What led you to this role?
A. My cousin & his now wife asked me to officiate their wedding (before they were even engaged). After finalising registration to do their wedding, I thought perhaps it was worth pursuing my little love for love stories, and now here I am.
Q. How long have you been officiating weddings?
A. Since 2021
Q. What types of weddings do you most enjoy officiating (e.g., traditional, non-traditional, intimate, themed)?
A. Such a variety, it’s hard to articulate as I would say most of my ceremonies are non-traditional and intimate as they are all about my couples.
Q. How do you personalize the ceremony for each couple?
A. I meet with my couples and then have them complete a questionnaire that uncovers lots of the important details of their relationship.
Q. Can couples include specific readings, rituals, or traditions in the ceremony?
A. Of course! It’s their day and if there’s something special to them that they’d like to incorporate, I’ll do my best to make it happen.
Q.How do you work with couples to create vows that feel authentic to them?
A. I find personalised vows so sweet and I really encourage my couples to consider them! I don’t provide a template as personalised vows are much sweeter presented through their own words. No Google and don’t write vows feeling forced, using the notes section on your phone over a period of time is a handy way to take notes of something you might think of in every day life.
Q. Do you have any creative ideas or suggestions for making the ceremony feel unique and special?
A. Working with the couple is key, finding out what they value in each other and their relationship so I can honour them in sharing this through words with their favourite people.
Q. How do you work with other vendors (e.g., photographers, planners, musicians) to ensure everything runs smoothly?
A. Always introducing myself and communicating with them openly. We all want to do our best for the couple and working together gets that done effectively which I really enjoy. For me, letting the vendors know the ceremony timeline before go time is important. We are so lucky to have an incredible mix of talent in CQ and it’s a blast to work alongside other vendors in the industry to create a special day.
Q. How many meetings do you generally have with couples before the wedding day?
A. 2-3, sometimes more and these can be face to face or over video call / phone call.
Q. What is your process for handling legal paperwork and requirements?
A. I will confirm the legal requirements with all couples from our initial meeting, in accordance with my registration requirements in Australia.
Q. How would you describe your style as a celebrant – calm, energetic, humorous, formal?
A. I like to think my style is a balance of fun & feelings.
Q. Do you have any recommendations or tips for preparing for a wedding ceremony?
A. Approach it with fun and love, acknowledge the feelings for you as a couple and work with the celebrant to curate your ceremony to reflect you both in the ways you value the most.
